Time to let your creativity run wild in team competitions

at the IJA GROOM BOWL. 

DAY 1:  BRAIDING AND BEADING  

  • Option 1 Salon

  • Option 2 Formal Affair

  • Option 3 Extreme

ALL ABOUT THE BRAIDS AND THE BEADS

Class for the longer coat types with color, decorative objects with different and unique braiding designs. Create an elegant, beautiful design for a salon trim, a formal black-tie event to the extreme with the longer coat types. 

 

Coat Types and Breeds

Pure breeds and/or mixed breeds with long and flowing drop coat types for this class. 

Examples: Shih Tzu, Maltese, Lhasa Apso

 

Bring on the color, please! 

Backdrops allowed. No Skits. 

Out of Ring Before Competition 

  • 50% of overall trim style preset out of the ring.

  • 100% sanitary and pads trimmed out of the ring.

  • Dogs with scissored feet, pads only clipped out of the ring.

  • 50% of color applied out of the ring. 

  • The competitor must remove all bands before the start of the competition.

 

In the Ring During Competition 

  • 50% final overall finish of the trim style completed in the ring. 

  • 50% of color applied in the ring during competition.  

  • 100% of braiding and beading design completed in the ring during competition.

  • 100% of decorative coat art completed in the ring during competition.

 

Time Frame Determined by Height of Dog 

16 inches and under                                  1:30 Hours   

Over 16 inches up to 20 inches                1:45 Hours 

Over 20 inches up to 23 inches                2:00 Hours 

Over 23 inches                                            2:15 Hours

ALL ABOUT THE INTRICATE CLIPPER WORK AND DESIGN 

Class for intricate coat designs and patterns created with clippers on pure breeds and mixed breeds with shorter coat types requiring minimum scissor work to create the design. This class is all about the clipper work!

Short, Smooth, Medium Smooth Coat Types

Examples: Labrador Retriever 

 

Bring on the Color and the Intricate Skin & Coat Decorative Art! 

Backdrops allowed. No Skits.

Out of Ring Before Competition 

  • 0% of overall intricate clipper trim style pattern preset out of the ring.

  • 100% sanitary and pads trimmed out of the ring.

  • 50% of color applied out of the ring. 

 

In the Ring During Competition 

  • 100% of overall intricate clipper trim style pattern preset out of the ring.

  • 50% of color applied in the ring during competition.  

  • 100% of decorative coat art completed in the ring during competition.

DAY 3: SCISSORING AND SCULPTING

  • Option 3 Extreme

ALL ABOUT SCISSORING AND SCULPTURING

Classes for salon, formal affair (similar to runway), and the extreme creative designs.

Coat Types and Breeds

Pure breeds and/or mixed breeds with Curly, Rough, Rough Nordic, Medium Long Coat Types

Examples: Poodles, Bichons, Bedlingtons, Portuguese Water Dogs, Collies, Akitas, Pomeranians 

 

Out of Ring Before Competition 

  • 50% of overall trim style preset out of the ring.

  • 50% of color applied out of the ring.

  • 100% sanitary and pads trimmed out of the ring.

  • 100% face and feet on Poodles trimmed out of the ring.

  • Dogs with scissored feet, pads only clipped out of the ring.

 

In the Ring During Competition 

  • 50% of the overall trim style completed in the ring.

  • 50% of color applied in the ring.

  • 100% clipped design completed in the ring.

  • 100% of decorative coat art applied in the ring.

About Options

Salon Creative Styling Option

Competition Dog must be a trim that is suitable for a pet to go home with a pet family and return 6 to 8 weeks for the next styling session. Over groomed and styled or decorated with objects not suitable for salon creative trim style will be penalized. 

Black Tie and Pearls Creative Styling Option

Competition Dog must be styled to be presented on the walkway at a formal black tie and pearls event. The style must allow for the dog to move to present the design properly.

Extreme Creative Styling Option

Competition Dog is presented on the table with a backdrop to achieve the maximum effect—class for intricate and extreme designs with decorative skin and coat art on curly and other heavy-coated breeds. The sky's the limit, so put your creative mind in it to win it! Color, Color, and More Color until you have to Stop!
