Model Dog Team Information

The first IJA Sanctioned Model Dog World Championship Competition was conducted at the Pittsburgh Pet Expo in 2017 in the USA and conducted by the Nash Academy Dog Grooming School. The competition recognized and awarded the top individual model dog competitors and the best teams worldwide.

 

The first competitions featured trim styles for the Poodle in the show ring and the contest arena with the retro banded trims created on Poodles in the '80s and '90s and the Asian styles trending today.

 

The first event offered model dog creative competitions to allow competitors to let their imagination run wild with exotic designs, colors, decorative objects, and presentations. The creative classes offered were Absolutely Abstract - Lines, Shapes, Objects, and Things; Animal Instincts - Real and Imaginary and Gorgeous Glittery Gardens - Flowers, Birds, Butterflies, and Bees. China took Best Team in Pure Breed and South Korea in Creative with Best in Class and Best in Show Individual wins by the USA.

The second stop of the World Championship Model Dog Competition Tour was conducted in South Korea by the Korean Kennel Club and was a huge success. Thank you, Korean Kennel Club, for your outstanding hospitality to all country leaders, judges, and competitors. The USA won Best in Show in Creative, and South Korea Team won Best in Show in Creative.

The World Groomers Association WGA conducted the third stop of the tour in Taiwan. Thank you, WGA, for a wonderful show, and congrats to the USA Model Dog Team for taking home Best in Show in Pure Breeds and Best in Show in Creative Model Dog Competitions! 

​

The fourth stop of the tour was beautiful in Brazil, and the fifth stop scheduled for Australia was postponed until 2022 due to Covid. More information is coming soon on dates.

IJA will offer 1 World Championship Model Dog Competitions a year. The events are conducted in the spring, summer, or fall. If you are interested in forming a team or hosting an event, please contact the IJA Team!

Same Model Dogs - World Championship Competitions

Team members must use the same model dogs and wigs for the World Championship Model Dog Competitions. The type of wigs is listed for the Poodles, Pure Breeds, Free Style, and Creative Classes to create consistency and the fairest competition arena. Additional wigs may be required for creative classes. The individual competitor determines the number of wigs in the Creative competition. 

 

IJA in the USA was the first to establish a manual for "team" rules, policies, and procedures for international model dog competitions.
