Tammy will teach you canine anatomy and how to understand a breed standard. She will explain terms used in the conformation such as body type, ear type and carriage, tail set and carriage, level topline, short coupled and straight in stifle.

You will discuss with team leader and classmates the history of the dog to understand dog behavior and how you can apply this knowledge every day at home and in the salon. The class will discuss  inherited characteristics combined with the influence of environment. You will understand when the dog becomes a part of a household as a pet, this environment will influence the dog’s natural, inherited temperament, and the result will be his future behavior.

 

Form and Function of Man's Best Friend

As a class, you will discuss canine anatomy and physiology with your team leader to give you the knowledge to make you proficient at first aid and CPR. You will learn what terminology and vocabulary you need to know to communicate professionally in case of an emergency.

 

Taking Care of Man's Best Friend

Canine nutrition, diseases and disorders are studied with your team leader and classmates to understand issues due to poor nutrition, the differences between inherited conditions, medical conditions and disorders in dogs. 

 

First Aid and CPR for Man's Best Friend

First aid and CPR policies and procedures will be studied and demonstrated to prepare you and your classmates to be excellent first responders to common injuries and illnesses in the salon to help save lives of canines. You will learn different methods for transporting injured dogs and what a salon first aid kit should include.

 

Session 2 Practicing First Aid and CPR Policies and Procedures

Class will practice policies and procedures and then take practical skills test and a written test. 

 

Understanding Man's Best Friend 

In the hands on session you will practice applying knowledge gained from history of the dog to understand dog behavior. You and your classmates will apply this knowledge when handling and securing dogs to respond to various medical conditions and first aid issues that typically occur in the salon.

 

Form and Function of  Man's Best Friend

You will practice identifying various parts of canine anatomy and physiology on a dog to prepare to apply first aid and CPR. You will use correct terminology to discuss anatomy and location of internal organs of the dog in case of an emergency.

 

Taking Care of Man's Best Friend

You and your classmates will determine the differences between inherited and non-inherited medical conditions, disorders, disease and what illnesses afflict the dog because of inadequate nutrition, and which illnesses can be treated through proper diet in this hands on course. 

 

First Aid and CPR for Man's Best Friend

You will have the opportunity to practice and test out on first aid and CPR policies and procedures for typical injuries and illnesses that occur in the salon. You will discuss, practice and test on different methods to transport injured or ill dogs and check first aid kits to make sure they are supplied with the correct contents.

Policies on how, when, where and why to sanitize tools and equipment and the importance of product knowledge, safety and organization will be discussed. You and your classmates will learn policies and procedures for pet monitoring, placing and removing pets in and out of kennels and why pets should never be left unattended in the bathing station or on a grooming table. 

 

Safety, Sanitation, Organization and Maintenance 

You will discuss with your instructor and classmates why, when, where and how to organize, sanitize and maintain your task areas with daily, weekly and monthly procedures using charts and checklists. You will learn how to create and conduct emergency and severe weather policies and procedures for your own salon.

 

Session 2: Specialist on Salon Safety

Hands On Practical Testing  -  Written Test

Class will practice policies and procedures and then take practical skills test and a written test. The class will be tested on when, where and why to sanitize tools and equipment as well as product knowledge and pet monitoring policies. You and your class will perform salon policies and procedures for receiving and presenting a pet, transporting a pet, placing and removing pet in and out of kennel and from grooming table and bathing station. You and your classmates will practice applying policies and procedures to create a safe environment in all task areas, to achieve excellent safety, sanitation, organization and maintenance policies and procedures using daily, weekly and monthly checklists. Session 3: Dress to Impress with Smooth Moves in the Ring

It is not all about the bathing, grooming and styling. Competitors are evaluated on technical, profile, degree of difficutly achieved and professionalism. The judge should never question who needs groomed... the competition dog or the competitor. Gentle handing is a must. Competitor and competition dog should work in harmony during the entire competition. Evaluations & Critiques On Competition Dogs

Because we are educators and have been since 1979. The Nash Team understands it takes more than watching scissoring and handstripping techniques in a seminar room with 150 attendees to master these skills. We know you must first observe the techniques to understand the why and how and then practice, with supervision, so you get it right. 

 

Technical skills series are separated by coat types to allow you and your technical skills specialists to focus on products, tools, equipment and techniques required for specific coat types. Our technical skills specialist will first demonstrate and explain the techniques and then you will practice with your classmates. 

 

We suggest participants bring their own dog or you can apply technical skills to the dogs furnished by specialists.
