IJA offers IN THE RING and IN THE SALON Dog Grooming Competitions with Education and Documented Evaluations for Coat Type Certifications and Safety Certifications for Bathers, Groomers and Stylists.

A System for Everyone!

A system for the beginner to be educated and be able to be tested on his or her knowledge, and to receive credit for all seminars attended toward certificate and diploma programs through an international, world renowned school, celebrating 40 years of teaching pet lovers to be professional bathers, groomers and stylists, salon managers, owners and more. 

A Scoring and Ranking System

The system awards all competitors with an evaluation, score, rank, level and title with the IJA Universal Canine Certification System.  

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Nash Academy of Animal Arts (the Nash System of Education) established in 1979, the International Judges Association for Dog Grooming Competitions established in 1998,  and the Universal Canine Certification System established in 2013 work together to present education, competitions and certifications in all facets of pet care to set standards worldwide. 

NASH ACADEMY OF ANIMAL ARTS

The Nash Academy was founded by John Nash in 1979 with a curriculum designed to make pet lovers pet care professionals as well as professional bathers, groomers and stylists. 

NASH APPROVED - SHARING THE NASH SYSTEM OF EDUCATION 

The Nash Approved System was created in 2008 by the owners of the Nash Academy to share the Nash Education to set standards in teaching the art of bathing, grooming and styling dogs with professionalism.  Salons, schools and associations around the world are Nash Approved to use the Nash System of Education. Developed over the last 40 years, the Nash Curriculum for bathers, groomers and stylists are the most progressive and best foundation in the industry.

The Universal Canine Certification System is the IJA Certification System and both use the Nash System of Education for all online study material and testing.

The Universal Canine Certification System (UCCS) was created by IJA to educate, train and test professional bathers, groomers and stylists in all facets of canine care using the competition ring as the onsite hands on practical skills venue.

The IJA UCCS offers in the salon competitions with education and certifications in salons throughout the USA.

IJA utilizes the Nash Approved System to set and maintain competition ring requirements for our shows at the Pet Expos and for the salons conducting IJA events.

 


 

IN THE RING competitions with certifications are conducted at our IJA Qualifying Competitions at the IJA SHOWS at the PET EXPOS.



 

IN THE SALON competitions with certifications are conducted at our IJA Learning Centers throughout the USA. The new IN THE SALON SOS Safety Certification is designed to train and test to prepare all our members for state licensing.

The number one choice for most bathers, groomers and stylists is the onsite hands on Championship Workshop with Competitions and with Certifications, which allow you to achieve the highest scores and ranks in your states, to promote and confirm your knowledge and expertise, and to be prepared for state licensing.

If you want Best in Show in the competition ring, the IJA Championship Training Workshops and Competitions are the way to go. From the beginner to the advanced, the onsite hands on training trains, evaluates, ranks and scores to qualify competitors for their individual state teams.

 

How Do They Work?

Championships are onsite hands on training with evaluations and with mock competitions to evaluate participants, to place them in their correct certification level determined by their technical skills and overall professionalism with a focus on safety.

 

Placements to Make it Fun and Competitive

Placements are awarded to all competitors after the mock competitions to create a competitive atmosphere to bring out the best in everyone and to also make it a lot of fun.

 

Same Rules, Policies and Procedures

Participants follow the same rules as competitors in the competition ring, though these workshops are conducted on a much smaller scale in a salon or school setting.

 

Locations

IN THE RING IJA Certification

If you love the thrill of the competition ring to earn your rank and certification scores in coat types and canine safety, we have the perfect competition series and competition stage with our state - regional - national competition series.


 

Qualifying competitions offer evaluations, with scores and ranks and a Competition Dog Makeover by the IJA Judges after the competition.

 

IJA conducts 3 IJA Shows at PET EXPOS

The competitions are to qualify competitors with their evaluation, score, rank and title to be eligible for a state team.

 

The competitions are for professionals who step in the ring to achieve the best in show and to promote their businesses to be Top Dog in their town. It is not mandatory that you try out for a state team.

 

IJA Judges use the IJA ranking and scoring system established and maintained by IJA Judges since 1998.

IJA Competitors who have achieved a Level 2 Master Rank or Higher in 2016, 2017 and 2018 qualify to participate on their state team in 2019 at regionals and nationals.

Seasoned Competitors QUALIFY NOW!

Seasoned competitors who are interested in qualifying can attend a championship training with the qualifying competitions or attend a pet expo with the qualifying competitions.

Level 1 Competitors - Continue Your Steps to Success

For competitors who have not achieved a Level 2 Master Rank or Higher, continue in 2019 to participate in Championship Training Workshops with Competitions as well as Qualifying Competitions at IJA Sanctioned Competitions to reach your goals. Remember step by step,

How to Qualify to Compete in State Competitions

IJA has created policies and procedures to qualify individual competitors to create the best  when it comes to state teams to participate in regional and national competitions. The IJA Canine Styling Specialist State Team Members are our super stars who set standards today in our competition arenas for our team members of tomorrow to follow.

Profile of IJA Canine Styling Specialist State Team Member

The profile of an IJA State Team Member includes talent and professionalism at the highest level at all times.

Resident of State Required

The IJA Competitor must be a resident of the state for 3 months and must be able to show proof of residency.

 

Required Ranking

The IJA Competitor must achieve a Level 2 Master Rank or Higher in a specific Coat Type Category.

Qualifying One or More Coat Types

The IJA competitor has the opportunity to qualify for their state team in one or in all coat type categories. For example: The IJA competitor can achieve a Level 3 Expert Rank or Higher in the Curly Coat Type and Level 2 in a Wire Coat Type.

 

Pure Breed Competition Classes

Pure Breed or Mixed Breed can be used to create the Pure Breed Conformation Trim Style.

Competition dog must have correct coat type for class.

Multitude of Coat Types

Example: Golden Retriever

Pure Breed or Mixed breed trimmed in a Golden Retriever conformation trim style ready to go into the conformation ring.

Sporting Coat Types

Example: Cocker Spaniel

Pure Breed or Mixed breed trimmed in a Cocker Spaniel conformation trim style ready to go into  the conformation ring.

Wire Coat Types

Example: West Highland Terrier

Pure Breed or Mixed breed trimmed in a West Highland Terrier conformation trim style ready to go into the conformation ring.

Curly Coat Types

Example: Bichon Frise

Pure Breed or Mixed breed trimmed in a Bichon Frise conformation trim style ready to go into the conformation ring.

 

Speciality Class: Poodles - Toy - Miniature - Standard

Conformation Trim Styles and Free Style Trims

 

Free Style Competition Classes - NO PURE BREED TRIMS ALLOWED

This class is reserved for unique trims such as the fox, the lion, and the panda trim styles.

Mix and match trim style components. Just no conformation trims styles!

Example: Pomeranian trimmed in a Lion Trim Style or a Panda Trim.​

Mixed and Pure Breeds in conformation trims are judged in conformation trim class.

STEP 1

Suggested for the individual who has competed before in conformation or in grooming competitions.

STEP 2

Suggested for the novice to be evaluated and scored and placed in a level to determine his or her path to take with IJA.
