#1 Type of Design

  • Competitors are evaluated on type of design. Did competitor achieve:

  • Realistic Profile

  • Cartoon or Fantasy Profile

  • Abstract

  • Theme and Collage

 

Judging Considerations

  • Competitor captured correct profile of real life animal or character.

  • Competitor captured correct expression.

  • Competitor achieved best design for coat type.

  • Competitor achieved overall theme for collage?

  • Competitor achieved story with collage?

  • All images appropriate for theme.  

  • Competitor achieved well balanced design, if applicable.

  • Competitor achieved symmetry, if applicable.

 

Score and Ranking

Specialist in creative design.

Expert in creative design.

Master in creative design.

Novice in creative design.

 

#2 Originality of Design

Competitors are evaluated on originality and creativity of design. Did competitor use components of dog to create unique and intricate design? For example, using ears to create wings on Owl.

 

Judging Considerations

  • Design used previously.

  • Design original and created first time by competitor.

  • Design unique and very different.

 

Score and Ranking

Specialist in creating new designs.

Expert in creating new designs.

Master in creating new designs.

Novice in creating new designs.

 

#3 Difficulty of Design - Percent completed in the ring.

Competitors are evaluated on length of coat presented and amount of coat removed during competition. Designs may be pre-set or blocked in prior to competition.

Competitor must make distinct change in dog's overall appearance when viewed from front, side, rear and top.

#5 Technical Skills Achieved on Design

Competitors are evaluated on overall technical skills.

Judging Considerations

Bathing - coat properly bathed.

Drying - coat properly dried.

Brushing - coat properly brushed.

Combing - coat properly combed.

Handstripping - handstripping finish even with no bare spots.

Plucking - overall finish even with no bare spots.

Carding - overall finish even with no bare spots or skins irritations.

Clippering - clipper finish smooth without tracks. Clipper lines sharp and precise.

Thinning - blended on transition lines. Bulked thinned to reduce volume.

Scissoring - finish on scissored areas smooth. Lines precise.

COLOR

#1 Coloring Design

Competitors are evaluated on all aspects of creative coloring designs.

Judging Considerations

Correctness of Color - Competitors evaluated on correctness of color for object, creature or thing.

Brilliance of Color - Competitors evaluated on brilliance and clarity of colors.

Softness of Colors - Competitors evaluated on softness of muted colors and clarity of pastels.

Shades of Color - Competitors evaluated on number of color shades created.

Blending of Colors - Competitors evaluated on blending of various colors.

 

Safety Application - Competitors evaluated on overall safety application of color.  

Consistency of Color - Competitor is evaluated on percentage of accurate and true color achieved on overall design.

DECORATIVE COAT ART

#1 Decorative Design

Competitors are evaluated on the type of decorative design to establish more accurate judging considerations.

  • Realistic Decorative Art Design - Competitors create more realistic or cartoon profiles, animals, creatures or things by adding decorative objects to coat.

  • Abstract Decorative Art Design - Competitors create abstract-type art using decorative objects to highlight their masterpiece.

  • Collage Type Decorate Design - Competitors create multiple designs to create theme and adds decorative objects such as beads, ribbons, rhinestones, buttons and bows to  create visuals to tell a story.
