Theme: Styling to Breed Standard
The purpose of this class is to recognize the contestant's artistic ability in creating the most accurate and precise profile according to breed standard.

Level of Competition Skill:
Open to all contestants

Class
This is an open class with all contestants starting with the same model dog, which will be provided by show organizer.  This can be an open class, or broken into breed groups (see show details). Contestant is allowed to create any pure bred dog profile according to breed standard.

Competition Time Frame
All contestants will be permitted 2 hours, 30 minutes ( includes 15 minute "sally break" for the contestant ).

Competition Preparation
The dog should be brushed prior to contest start.

Because this is a new competition and many contestants will not be familiar with or will have not worked previously with the "coat" on the model dogs, we advise contestant to brush out the dog totally before entering the ring. Proper brush out of a model dog can take up to 2 hours. It is important to brush the dog with a soft pin brush. Do not panic if a lot of hair comes out while you are brushing, this is normal. If you plan to create a breed profile that has long coat, such as a Cocker Spaniel, be very careful not to brush out too much coat.

No types of decorations are allowed to be placed in the coat such as ribbons, beads, etc.

Coat coloring is permitted, but coloring must be according to breed standard and must be done during the competition. All products and/or sprays must be non toxic and safe for application on animals and humans.

Sprays are permitted but must be used within the competition time frame and must be non toxic and safe for animals and humans.

Pins, wires and other products are acceptable in order to create "perk" ears. Contestants should provide their own  products, sprays, dies, pins, wires, etc.

Hair extensions are not permitted.

No pre-grooming (other than brushing) is permitted.  All model dogs will be examined for any pre-grooming when contestants check in.

If a clipper is used, rechargeable clippers are recommended , as electric may not be available at all shows.

Grooming tables may not be available at all shows, however, suitable 30" high tables will be provided. Groomers may choose to supply their own tables.

Judging Considerations
Judges will not comb or brush model dogs during the judging.

The judging panel will evaluate the following:

  • Degree of intricacy of the trim.
  • Accuracy in the profile according to breed standard.
  • Balance, symmetry and style are also considered.
  • Quality of technical finish.
