Creative Styling Contest

Theme: Anything Goes
The purpose of this class is to recognize the groomer's creativity and ingenuity, as well as his or her grooming expertise.
Class
Open to any pure bred or mixed breed dog. For all Poodles, the face, feet and tail area must be clipped during the competition.
Competition Time Frame
All dogs will be permitted 2-1/2 hours.
Judging Considerations
The judging panel will evaluate the following:
- Originality and creativeness of the styling design.
- Degree of intricacy of the clipped and scissored design.
- Percentage of the styling design completed in the ring.
Patterns can be preset, however, the degree of pattern application in the ring may affect the difficulty aspects in the overall judging.
- Overall technical finish.
- Brilliance and clarity of the coat coloring. – Contestants may color their dogs prior to entering the ring or use temporary spray color during
the competition. Any coloring substance used must be safe for animals
and humans.
- Sharpness of the color lines, if applicable, when more than one color is used on the creative design.
- Blending of the color lines, if applicable, when more than one color
is used on the creative design.
- Quality and quantity of decorative type applications on the dog.
- Name of the presentation, competition dog, props, contestant's costume and table decorations are considered when judging
the final presentation.
Final Stage Set Up
Each contestant will have a 6’x 6’ space to decorate to enhance their creative styling theme. The entire presentation cannot exceed the 6’x 6’ space. Table tops, of provided tables, must be protected from glitter, glue and color.
The contestant will have 10 minutes to set up their stage area for their Final Presentation. Time Frame begins 10 minutes before the
competition ends. The contestant must have their Final Presentation ready for the judges inspection by the end of the competition.
The maximum of two contestants assistants may enter the stage
area at this time to assist in the set up.
Contestants will be permitted a two minute performance to the audience.The presentation may include lighting and sound. Lighting and sound must be discussed with the stage technicians prior to the contest. Smoke or fire is not permitted. This performance is not required and is to enhance People’s Choice Award only. IJA panel does not consider this performance in their decision.
* Seasonal and holiday themes may not be used on the cover of the magazine, due to difficulty in timing the placement of the photo on the cover. (Example: A Christmas theme may work in December, but the magazine cover may not be produced until May, at which time the photo would be deemed unsuitable for the cover.) Judging of such themes will not be in jeopardy nor would the creation be judged any better or worse than any other theme. The photo would be included inside magazine coverage of the show.
Awards
The judging panel will choose First, Second and Third placements.
Grooming Equipment and Products
- Contestant must provide all of their own equipment, including grooming table,grooming arm and safety loop unless provided by the show organizer. See Show Rules.
- Hair dryers are not permitted in the competition ring.
- Holding crates are not permitted in the competition ring.
- Personal grooming tables and equipment must be removed from the ring after each class.
- Contestants may use spray glitter, ribbons, rhinestones, or any other finishing touches during the competition. Costumes, decorations and cosmetic finishing touches to enhance, but not cover, the design are
permitted. All products, decorations or props must be safe for animals and humans. Glues must be water-soluble. Hot glue guns are not permitted. Costumes or ornaments must not, in any way, hinder a dog’s ability to move, impair vision or hinder free movement of ears.
